Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA SROC Director and/or Deputy Director, the Liaison Specialist plays the leading role in the delivery of the UNFPA Multi country programme in policy advocacy and dialogue and is responsible for the day-to-day programme and operation activities of the Liaison Office for Barbados and the OECS.
The UNFPA Liaison Specialist plays a leading role in strengthening the Country’s capacity to implement the ICPD Program of Action within the context of its national development efforts for the achievement of the SDGs, thus ensuring national ownership. The Liaison Specialist substantively contributes on advancing a policy-oriented agenda, leveraging the resources of national governments, building strategic alliances and partnerships and developing internal and external communication.
The Liaison Specialist proactively supports the resource mobilization strategies at country level and provides the SRO Director/Representative with information and guidance on population dynamics and its linkages with women and youth sexual and reproductive health, youth empowerment and gender equality.
The Liaison Specialist will engage with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to advance collaboration with UNFPA on issues of common interest, including but not limited to the population dynamics, youth and gender agenda and sexual and reproductive health.
S/He is primarily responsible for promoting at the national level the goals of UNFPA and ensuring the integration of issues of population, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender in the broader development agenda. Key areas of work include:
