Throngs of people swarm EXPO 2009!

The EXPO Belize Market Place 2009 had record numbers of visitors this year with approximately 18,000 people streaming through the gates of the SJC compound this past weekend. With a diversity of booths, numerous gate prizes, varied entertainment – Youth Connection Band, Bea Jay and Herschel Armstrong, winners of the Patriotic Song Competition, and Nu Generation Dancers - and new additions to the weekend’s activities such as the medal ceremony for the Lionman Triathlon and the raffling of a house by Crime Stoppers, visitors had much to see and do at the EXPO.

The Grand Gate Prize Winner, Mr. Henry Holliday, won one round trip ticket to anywhere in the continental USA, Alaska or Canada courtesy of Continental Airlines. Other gate prize winners include: Leticia Casanova, Sharon Tan, Laura Friesen, Paula Robateau, Rose Guerra, Gelber Sanchez, Susie Cabral, Marco Chan, Mark Humes, Mary Herrera, Celia Ayuso, Tanya Coleman and Lennox Leslie.

In addition, the general public was invited to text and vote for the best overall booth, which is something new that the Chamber introduced this year. Based on the results, the Best Overall Booth Award is given to Belize Telemedia Ltd., followed by Santiago Castillo Ltd. and SMART.
