Commerce Sector Meets with PM's AdvisorThursday, December 10, 2009
On Wednesday, December 9th, 2009, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitated a sector meeting with our members in the commerce sector and the advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Alan Slusher along with Mr. Lincoln Blake, Senior Economist, Ministry of Economic Development. The meeting was held at the BCCI conference room and was described by the members who attended as a very beneficial discussion. The forum was very informal and lent itself to honest open discussions. The key points that were discussed included, but were not limited to, the state of the economy. Some creative suggestions were made regarding the interest rates both on deposits and loans. It was suggested that businesses would not be fearful to put their foreign exchange earnings through the banking system if they would have a guarantee that when it is needed by them to pay their foreign commitments it would be available. This would minimize the black market trade that is prevalent at this time. The commerce sector meeting is the first of a series of meetings with the Prime Minister's Advisor, Mr. Alan Slusher and Mr. Lincoln Blake, Senior Economist, Ministry of Economic Development. The other two meetings will be held on December16th at the BCCI conference room located on the 2nd floor of the Withfield Tower at #4792 Coney Drive in Belize City. The Service Sector meeting will be at 9:30am and the Industry Sector meeting is scheduled for 1:30pm. You can register at bcci@belize.org |
