Belizeans in the thousands braved the inclement weather over the weekend and flocked to the 18thExpo Belize Marketplace, which took place on September 6th and 7th, 2014 at the ITVET Campus on Freetown Road in Belize City. An impressive 19,000 plus visitors swarmed in from various parts of the country to experience the largest trade show in Belize.
The various attractions this year included the participation of local Micro Businesses, the Department of the Environment, Income Tax Department, Embassies, Belizean Youth for Road Safety, Galen University, Healthcare testing, Vehicle Display, Airlines, Insurance, Hotel Accommodation, Construction, Automotive, Phones, Dry Goods and Groceries, popular local artists and fashion designers, wide assortment of food and drinks and numerous children entertainment areas. This Year’s Expo showcased a wide variety of new micro businesses such as Tropical Treasures, ArtisAnn, Kimberly Griffith handmade Jewelry, Silk Naturelle Spa & Products, Amarabi Seasonings and Marvilleous Sauces to name a few, which were supported by the BCCI and had the opportunity to market their goods and services to the record number of visitors to the show.
Mr. Michael Singh, CEO in the Ministry of Trade, Investment Promotion, Private Sector Development and Consumer Protection was the keynote speaker for the event. He spoke on the potential and creativity of the small businesses in Belize and the role of BELTRAIDE in getting them prepared to eventually export their products and services. The BCCI also partnered with the Rotary Club of Belmopan and promoted their “Adopt a Duck” initiative at the Expo to support the work of the Rotary Club. Ducks are still available at the BCCI’s office on Coney Drive in Belize City. The top five gate prizes from a total of twenty four prizes were sponsored by United Airlines, Atlantic Bank Limited, Belize Healthcare Partners, Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina and Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza. The winners will be posted on the Chamber’s Facebook Page, Chamber’s Website and printed on this week’s issue of the Amandala Newspaper.
